Main Street Atmore is built on the belief that strong organization and genuine collaboration are the backbone of successful revitalization. Our work in the downtown district focuses on providing resources and incentives that help business owners preserve historic character, strengthen economic vitality, and deepen community engagement. This foundation of teamwork and strategy reassures our partners that their investment of time and trust fuels real, lasting impact.

For more than thirty years, Main Street programs nationwide have revitalized local economies by concentrating energy, resources, and people-power into the improvement of older and historic commercial districts. Designated an Affiliated Main Street community in June 2020, Main Street Atmore follows the proven four-point approach championed by Main Street America and Main Street Alabama: organization, promotion, design, and economic vitality.

In 2023, our program achieved Accredited Main Street status, a milestone many communities reach only after five to seven years of operation. Earning this distinction in just three years underscores the drive, dedication, and commitment that fuel our work and inspire both partners and residents to join us in shaping Atmore’s future.

Main Street Atmore is a nonprofit organization committed to stimulating downtown revitalization through:

• Promotion: strengthening downtown’s image and positioning it as a vibrant place to live, shop, and invest
• Design: enhancing the physical appearance of downtown
• Economic Vitality: receiving, administering, and distributing funds to support sustainable growth

Main Street programs are more than great events and beautification projects. At their core, they are economic development engines that expand a community’s tax base, foster entrepreneurship, build local capacity, and unite key groups around a shared vision. The Main Street Four-Point Approach®, developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, has helped revitalize more than 2,000 communities, spurring billions of dollars in investment and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs over the past three decades.

When Atmore earned its Main Street Alabama designation in 2020, it brought together what had previously been independent efforts by the Historic Preservation Committee, the Chamber of Commerce, the City of Atmore, and others. Today, Main Street Atmore works closely with the Smart Growth America committee and serves as a central hub connecting committees, partners, and local stakeholders as part of a coordinated, forward-thinking plan. We are one of only 28 communities selected to participate in the statewide Main Street Alabama program.

Developing a Main Street program has allowed us to become more intentional, strategic, and assertive in promoting and strengthening our downtown. Under the leadership of Director Shinora Redmond and a dedicated Board of Directors, Main Street Atmore provides critical services that include business recruitment, financial incentive programs, and coordinated marketing and promotional support.
